How Meezan Car Ijarah Works (Islamic Leasing Explained)

Ijarah is Islamic leasing. Meezan Bank buys the car and legally owns it during the entire tenure. You (the customer / Lessee) pay a monthly rental to use the car. All ownership risks (damage, theft, market value fluctuation) sit with the bank (the Lessor). All usage risks (fuel, service, minor wear) sit with you. This owner-user separation is what makes the rental income Halal under Shariah law, per Meezan's Shariah Supervisory Board.

End-of-tenure transfer: At the end of the Ijarah term (up to 7 years for locally-assembled up-to-1000cc cars, 3 years for above-1000cc per SBP), you can buy the car from the bank via a separate Sale Agreement for a nominal purchase price. Ownership legally transfers to you at that point. The Sale Agreement is legally separate from the Ijarah contract (this separation is a Shariah requirement).

Ijarah vs Diminishing Musharakah: Meezan Car Ijarah uses Ijarah (leasing) structure. This is different from Diminishing Musharakah (co-ownership) used by BankIslami Auto Musharaka. Both are Shariah-compliant, but the contractual mechanics differ. Ijarah: bank owns, you rent, buy at end. Diminishing Musharakah: co-ownership, you buy bank's share over time.

NIL late payment penalty: Per Shariah rules, no penalty fees are charged for late rental payments. Meezan may request a voluntary charity donation for a late payment, but this is not a legal penalty and is not enforced. Conventional car loans typically charge Rs 500-2,000 per month late fee; Ijarah has none.

How to use the Meezan Car Ijarah Calculator 2026 (Shariah-Compliant Islamic Leasing at 12.27% PKRV-linked)

  1. Pick your customer segment: Salaried Individual, Self-Employed Professional, Business Owner, or Meezan Premium Banking. All segments share the SBP Rs 3M aggregate cap.
  2. Enter the vehicle price in PKR. New Pakistani cars 2026: Suzuki Alto approximately Rs 3M, Wagon R Rs 3.8M, Cultus Rs 4.2M, Toyota Yaris Rs 5-6M, Corolla Rs 6.5-7.5M, Honda City Rs 5.5-6.5M, Civic Rs 9-11M.
  3. Select engine CC bracket. SBP tenure caps apply automatically: Up to 1000cc gets 7-year max (Meezan Ijarah special allowance), 1001cc-1800cc capped at 3 years, above 1800cc capped at 3 years.
  4. Set your down payment percentage. Minimum 15 percent for up-to-1000cc, minimum 30 percent for above-1000cc per SBP. Higher down payment reduces both monthly rental and total profit.
  5. Set tenure in years. Up to 7 years available for small cars (Alto, Wagon R, Cultus), 3 years max for larger engines. Longer tenure = lower monthly rental but higher total profit.
  6. Set profit rate. Default is 12.27 percent (July 2026 indicative from multiple aggregator sources). This rate is PKRV-linked and revised periodically; confirm final rate on your Meezan Car Ijarah Offer Letter.
  7. Read the results: Monthly Ijarah Rental (primary card), Down Payment amount, Total Cost, plus full breakdown table with processing fee and Takaful estimates. Warnings appear if down payment is below SBP minimum or financed amount exceeds Rs 3M cap.
